The Endless Mountains area of Pennsylvania is tucked way up in the northeast corner of PA, comprising a number of counties. The Visitor's Bureau does a lot of promotional work, and in general, it's a very arts-intensive area. I was just notified I received four awards in their 2010 photo contest in these categories, all of which were posted in the galleries of NPN at one time:
Animal--Awarded 1st Place for the NPN Fauna gallery EP-winning image, "The Apparition" (pictured). 3rd place went to my photo "Mallard Take-Off".
Summer--"Daisy Sunrise" took 2nd place.
Fall--"Golden Pathway" captured 3rd place.
Anyway, it wasn't a lot of money... but it's just another one of those things that will be marketed heavily in several states, including their 2011 Visitor's Guide which is very well done--best of all, it was free to enter. More exposure, for some rights to reproduce.
BTW, on a side note, early in October I thought the foliage here was pretty drab after a very dry summer. We received a lot of rain about two weeks ago, and it seems like all of the colors got more and more intense. Just an observation, not sure why, but it was good to see. Thanks!
great job bill. 4 awards good for you. and yes another year of crappy foliage. seems like every year as soon as it starts to look good it rains for days and the wind just takes care of the rest of the leaves. i was at francis e walter dam tonight and the foliage wasn't to bad.

Bill,
Congrats! I like your shot of the deer. hopefully the award was at least enough cash to buy a nice dinner and a libation after a day scouring the outdoors for photo opportunities!
Hi Bill, congrats on your placements in the contest! I admired this one when it was posted in fauna.

Thanks to you all, I know many others' accomplishments are more heralded than a simple regional thing like this... but trust me, getting the word out and getting my images out, has helped a great deal. Here's to momentum!!
BTW Jim, yes... that's about what the award money amounted to!!
