I just bought a Nikon D 70 as a backup to my D70s. When I put a CF card in it, it will give me the same number of jpegs (for example 291 large fine jpegs with both cameras) but only about half the number of Raw images. 176 with a one gig card in my D70s and only about 94 with the same card in my D 70. Anybody know what gives? Fortunately I got it from KEH so I can return it if there is something wrong. Thanks in Advance.

Sounds like it needs the latest firmware upgrade available free from Nikon.

Glad I could help. Makes those menus easier to read too! In fact, except for the bigger LCD on the back, your D70 is almost identical to your D70s now.

Nikon used the wrong math to figure space in the D-70. If you are using a big lens or doing extream closeup and want to use a cable release you are flat out of luck with the D-70, use the timer. I have one and think a lot of it but for the cable glich. Good Hunting

You aren't really "completely" out of luck, Robert. They make a handy little wireless remote for the D70. It's like having a 30 foot cable release without the cable! It even comes with a handy little pouch that attaches to the camera strap for always ready access. I use it a lot for macro work and moon shots with big telephotos. It comes in double handy for photos with me in them. You can even set it for instant or delayed shutter release with the remote. I highly recommend one.

A frined of mine has one and likes it just fine, I have a cable for my D 70s and I will soon get the remote for the D 70 also. Thanks again for the help on the Firmware upgrade, it's working fine now.

Mike, you are right about the wireless thing but the receiver is on the front of the camera which has you waving your hand at the wild bird or BHM (big harriy mammal) while you are trying to take that photo. It will also not fire if you are too close. It comes in a little pouch that I have attacded to my camera strap. Give me a good old cable any day. The dog might get me a D-200 for my birthday. Good Hunting
