From the Buffalo
This is one of few shots I have from the buffalo river. It seems every time I go, my creative side gets blocked up and I end up not shooting. On this particular evening, the same was true. I was walking around after setting up camp, viewing the rich evening light falling on the river trying to get inspired to set up and shoot. Well it never happened and I decided to join by friends for a nice camp dinner. I went back to my pelican case to put the gear up, and this lovely arrangement was just next to my case.

The rock was dry and kind of an ash white color, so I moistened it with water and went to work. I am pretty happy with the results, kind of a standard composition but I really liked how the end flower had a reddish brown center whereas the others were yellow.

On a side note, that same evening my brother found a vine of small watermelons growing on the bank. We figured someone was eating melons and the seed spitting contest resulted in the growth of a tasty treat. We thought that was strange.

Anyway, thoughts and comments welcome.

I like the red flower too - it might have been interesting to see a closer crop of that one with just a few of the yellow flowers. It strikes me as kind of odd that the plant is growing "down" in this picture - kind of unsettling. Thanks for posting!

Dowsing the rock with water was a good move, it really warmed up the bg detail. Nice eye on the reddish flower too. The downward hang of the flowers is different and with the position of some of the leaves it could certainly be rotated 180 and work just as well. Thanks for posting Brent!
