Alaska Commercial Fishing
If you're traveling around the Sounds and Fiords of Alaska during the summer you are bound to see commercial fishing boats. I always enjoy photos of fishing boats with the rugged Alaska mountains in the background but this year we haven't gotten to see the mountains very often so here are fishing boats in the weather of the day.

The commercial fishing isn't quite as extensive in the Juneau area, but in my travels this summer (just out of "town"), I cruised past a few key locations and saw more boats at work than in the last ten summers combined. Seeing everyone out on the deck working the nets is a neat aspect of this photo.

I can hear the squeal of the hydraulics, Kent! Great shot.

Glad I was able to stir up the memories, Kent & Hank.

Just so people don't get the idea it's always foggy and rainy in Alaska, here is another fishing boat photo taken in the same area and, believe it or not, later in the very same day! You can almost hear the popping sound as the skiffman jams the plunger into the water, not to mention the labored sound of the big diesel as it tows hard on the seine.

Love the images, Gary. The first image has such a soft, calm feel, but the colors still come through, and that glossy water in the second one is so nice. I wish I had gotten more images of the fishing in Cook Inlet, darn it.
Yeah, that sunny-and-rain-in-the-same-day thing has been really common this summer. We had a bunch of days that started out with some sun and quickly degenerated into cold rain squalls. The last several days were absolutely spectacular, though. Certainly snapped that rainy streak, but hey, it's clouding over again...
