A reminder that the annual Sandhill Crane Festival in Fairbanks is August 20-22, 2010. The festival includes talks, bird watching, nature walks, workshops and many other related activities with ample opportunities for observing Cranes and other fall migrants.
Thousands of Sandhill Cranes are also expected to be in attendance, and the photo opportunities - late, sweet light, autumn colors and tolerant birds - are usually terrific.
It takes those birds quite a while to make it up north.... The Sandhill Crane Festival in Monte Vista Colorado was March 12-14th this year. Great times though!

Hey Jim
I think the birds will be heading back south in late August. :)
Hope you had a good trip up here - sorry I missed you.

Carl has it right. Our festival is for the migration south. There's even an essay about it.
