Does anyone have a recommendation for a good seminar or workshop on marketing nature photography either through stock agencies, pr, galleries, websites, etc?
I saw two listed online - one was offered by HORIZON PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS and another was by BetterPhotos.com. Is anyone familiar with or used either one of these sites?
I can't recommend any, but I can offer a bit of advice. To make sure you get your money's worth, do a lot of research about what the course entails. Sales is only a very small part of "marketing," and if they aren't going to make the distinction and truly teach you about marketing, your bux may be better spent on the Photographer's Market book. We spend 5% of our income a year on advertizing, but that's the smallest part of the picture, compared to the time and effort we put into our total marketing effort. And the important thing for us, once we understood the difference and really concentrated on a marketing strategy, our business really went up.
My apologies if I'm lecturing to the choir and you already understand the distinction, but if it sounds like I'm talking in code, it's even more important that you know in detail what areas the seminar will cover.
Take a look at Rocky Mountain School of Photography. David Middleton offers two workshops on Professional Nature Photography. He talks about developing stories, researching your markets, how to get seen and more.
One workshop is on Photo Projects and the other is The Business of Outdoor Photography.
