Wow, what a week! We've seen it all this week, from the most stunning mountain landscapes imaginable, to quiet and delicate woodland scenes, and truly bizarre abstract puzzles.
Vance Gese's "Matanuska Autumn". Simply put, this is one of the most breathtaking mountain images that has appeared on this forum. It just can't get better - if you're not one of the 800+ that's seen this already, you'd better fix that!
Rick Lundh's "Molecular" series. An astounding abstract, full of energy, intrigue, and beauty. The black and white rendering makes it even more bizarre. In case you missed it here's #2 in the series: Molecular #2.
Verena & Georg Popp's "Gum Jungle". The fantastic warm and low angled light contrasted with the blue shadows brings these trees to life. Photographing a complex scene like this is incredibly difficult, making the fact that it hangs together even more impressive.
Wayne Simpson's "From the Shadows". A beautiful and delicate woodland landscape. This image is both dark and hopeful, adding a wonderful layer of depth and intrigue.
Stephen Weaver's "Summer Aspen Grove". While most of us are exploring late winter and early spring landscapes Stephen brings us a beautiful and refreshing summer woodland aspen scene.
So I guess that leaves us with the weekly pick... which goes to Dorin Bofan's "Good-bye Kiss". This is a quiet image, one that lacks the color and wow factor of many of the other images of this week, but it's the long lasting and deeper emotional aspect of this image that makes it stand out. A peaceful, touching, deeply beautiful, and personal image.
This week was chock full of incredible images, so narrowing it down to the weekly pick and a few highlights was a real challenge. Be sure to flip through the previous few pages so you don't miss the other gems. Fantastic work everyone, keep it up!
Thank you very much, Floris and to all the moderators for the kind words. I'm truly honored and it means very much to me as I'm facing challenging times ahead. A real encouragement. Congrats to you for doing this great job and congrats to the other selected photographers for the stunning works!
Funny how this image barely got noticed on the local Romanian forums.
Hi Floris. These highlights you post are wonderful, and I'm sure it takes a lot of additional time on your part. Just wanted to let you know it is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
Thanks for all your time Floris in doing this. It is really quite pleasant and entertaining, especially your summaries. Congratulations to all the finalists on jobs well done! All are beautiful images and the processing and imagination behind them are outstanding. Since the results are on a public forum, here is my opinion:
1) With all due respect to everyone, Vance Gese got robbed.
2) There is an alarmingly high ratio (4:1) of abstracts to grand scenics for nominations.

Great choices, and this is a very cool way to wrap up a week of images on the most busy gallery on the site.

Just my two cents...
