Black-Headed Gull
Tried my hand at getting some flight shots today - and boy does my hat go off to you guys who do it with the 500/600mm lenses! Tracking them with the 300 was hard enough. This image of a first winter (I believe) Black Headed Gull was one of the better ones. Welcome your views as ever.

Tech Details:

Canon 20D
300 F4LUIS
ISO 200
1/640 @ f5.6 -2/3

Well done Dennis. Great detail, well exposed, beautifully cropped and a nice plain backdrop. Certainly works for me.

What about 800mm? Fine work, well caught.

800mm - well I just simply grovel in admiration (and envy!) - especially when its used with the skill that you employ Tim.

Nice crisp flight shot. I have used the 300mm (non IS) in the past for flight shots and in this sort of situation I am sure the IS helps (either that or my technique is dire!)

Congrats. :toast:

Hi Dennis

A cracking flight shot :toast:

Exposure and composition are excellent, only minor nit is it would be nicer if the bird was slightly lower in the frame. Other than that small point you have caught the gull perfectly with nice wing position and showing lots of detail in the plummage. Well done.

cheers

Its a corker Dennis!

Tricky branch of photography, this flight stuff malarky, and i am a complete failure in that department.

Top notch result in my book.
