Siskin ?... I Think...
canon 10D 300 F4 L IS + 1.4xtc 1/500@ f6.7 iso 200. Handheld.
Finally had a day off work and got some really nice light  .
Spent an hour or so watching a group of six of these birds eating a couple of trees. I have never seen them before so i was really pleased to get a few half decent shots of them. Can anyone confirm that it is a siskin?.

Any crits advice etc much appreciated..

Thanks Stewart... :jump:

Hi Stewart

Great composition and good behavioural shot. The framing of the bird and branch is excellent and the proportions in the frame are spot on.

Only nit is you are photographing the bird from the shady side so the feathers on the back are not very well lit. If possible (always easy said than done) try to get the shot from the 'sunny' side to make the most of the colours.

Good shot though, well done. :toast:

cheers

Sean

p.s. looks like a Siskin to me

Hi Stewart
it is a male Siskin. Great attempt at photographing the bird.

Nice one Stewart,

Typical view of these acrobats, in my experience. Although ive always found these birds to be relatively tame, ive always found them tricky to manually focus on.

The catkins set the scene nicely for this particular bird, as they are commonly seen in that type of tree.
