I shot this little bird in a snowy day.
For me, in Italian, he his a "CINCIA". My dictionary translate this into "TITMOUSE". People say he his a "GREAT TIT".
I don't know the difference, who can help me to understand?
ThanKs. Mauro.

Hi Mauro - titmouse is the famiily name. This is a Great Tit, one of many different species in the Titmouse family.

Great Tit it is, in the US we have Chickadees, etc. I remember being at a Thanksgiving dinner at someone's house in Minnesota one time and asking if they had tits in the garden, the conversation fell silent!
In the UK there are also Blue Tits, Long Tailed Tits etc.

In birds, nomenclature often varies between Europe and America. In Howard&Moore (one of the several systematic lists of bird species), the genus Parus includes Tits, Titmice and Chickadees. Apparently, the latter two consist of species that live in America.

As others said, this is a Great Tit (Parus major), and in my opinion a male. Nice shot too!
