Scarlet M & F??
First of all, I apologize for the lousy quality of this photo. Soft, soft, soft... don't know if it was shooting from the sunlight into the shade, or just OOF because of shake.

Anyway, I took this a couple of years ago in the woods behind my house at the time. I believe they are scarlet tanagers, male and female?? The color differences are quite amazing to me.

Very disappointing on looking back at this image. The grain in the tree and the couple perched on the limb SHOULD have made for my best bird capture. Thanks for any help.

Thats what they look like to me, but I am no bird expert either. Regardless of the quality of the photo, I bet you were excited to see and photograph these birds. I would be! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you John, I WAS excited to see them! I think that may caused part of my problem in focusing correctly. So :frown: and  I guess.

You guessed it right, Bill...these are indeed a male and female Scarlet Tanagers. I too, was surprised a couple years ago, to find the female so totally different in color from the male.

Beautiful woods though. Hopefully you get another shot.

Thank you Erik, yes the lush forest with the pair frustrates me even more.

And thanks for the info Cindy, now I understand why they are so different--i said i was a novice! Well I can see this shot was taken in NE PA on May 28th... I know exactly the area it was taken, so fingers crossed I'll get some redemption.

Tanagers are beautiful, aren't they? You're fortunate to have gotten such a good look at a pair. It looks to me like the focus hit the tree in back better than the birds.

Hi Cindy, that's great info to know... I'm repeating to myself, "orange halves and grape jelly, orange halves and grape jelly...". ;) I only wish I get another chance.

Yes they are Pete!! I think you are exactly correct on your analysis unfortunately.
