First, let me apologize for dropping the ball on the monthly cover photo. Life just got in the way for both Anil and I.
Now, I am going to pick up the ball:
Images submitted between August 1 and August 25 will be considered for the September Cover Shot. The winner will be contacted via e-mail and asked to send me a short paragraph about how the image was made, along with a brief bio. The winning image and the accompanying text will be added to the CANP Home page during the first week of September.
If you have any questions, you may post them to this thread or send me an e-mail.
Thank you all for your participation at CANP and NPN!
Kind Regards,

Good Evening,
Preston and I talked about this and we felt it would be nice idea to pick one photograph made by a CANP member each month and place it on the forum’s home page as the “Cover Photo”. Under this program all images posted in this forum, between the 1st and the 25th of the month will automatically become eligible for the following month’s cover, provided they 1) meet all NPN submission guidelines and 2) have content that deals with the state of California. In addition to the photograph, the home page will also contain a short write-up on the image itself and [possibly] a mini bio of the photographer.
We want to get this started immediately and look forward to your participation. Remember, all entries received between March 1 – 25 are eligible for the “April 2006 Cover Photo”.
[Note: We encourage submissions from our out-of-state members.]
We wouldn't want anyone to loose out on a chance for the CANP Cover Shot of the month just because they also post on the main forums (like ESS, Avian, Man and Nature, Fauna, etc.). On the other hand, its going to be very hard to find out which among the main forum posts belong to CANP members (even if they are tagged somewhere in the text).
I think cross posting here on CANP is fine. However, If anyone has other options please speak up.
One small reminder. All photos posted between the 1st and the 25th of the current month are eligible (provided they meet the requirements as stated above) for the following month's Cover Shot, irrespective of whether they are tagged "Cover Shot" or not.
I like your cover photo idea. To make it more interesting, consider limiting the submissions to those taken by members just during the previous month instead of offering images that might have been taken months or years earlier. Also ought we just post a link in this thread or clog up this topic forum with a new thread? ...David
Thanks for writing. We could limit the submissions to just those photos that were made in the previous month. However, given the low traffic we have been seeing lately, I think it might be better to keep things open for now. If the number of posts really pick up, we can do what you have suggested.
Regarding your 2nd question, our recommendation is to create a new thread for each submission. This will allow others to comment on the posted images and get some discussion going and that is precisely what we are trying to encourage.

Besides, we could use all the traffic we can get here
