Hi everyone. I will be staying at the Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch Feb 14 (last time I stayed at this lodge was in 1977 but visited recently in January 2010 when my son took a 1 day mountaining course). My son Kevin is scheduled to climb to the summit of Mt Washington on Feb 15 with the EMS climbing school, weather permitting of course. So I will be in the area those two days. Any special places for sunrise and sunset. Frozen waterfalls are also a favorite of mine. So any advise is welcome. Thanks!

When you were here last, Jim Salge had suggested Diana's Bath was a must. I, too, agree with that as a frozen waterfall location. It has several "stages" to play with. Have fun!

A couple nice places I can suggest in the notch...

Square ledge, a short hike right across the street is a great sunrise location, but make sure you have good traction devises as the last 50 yards is a bit icy before the ledge. Another good place, go to the town of Shelburne just north, and go to the dam at the far end of Reflection pond off north road.

For sunset, the notch isn't ideal, but a trip to Jefferson, out rt 2, and then 115 is tough to beat.

Waterfalls, there's some great ones in the notch, but Thompson falls, a short hike from the wildcat ski area is excellent. And for accessability, Jackson falls, in downtown jackson is quite picturesque.

Lastly, if it's clear...take a snowcoach up to treeline on the Autoroad...you'll be glad you did!

Enjoy the trip!

Thanks very much Chris and Jim. Appreciate the advice. Sounds like we should get and early start tomorrow so I have enough time! I keep wishing I had added another day to our stay.
