Not the best photo for ID. The bird flew just as I pulled the trigger. I didn't quite acquire focus.

I'm guessing a first winter warbler of some kind.

Phil, I'm viewing this on my monitor at work, but this looks to me like a fall plumage Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Phil,

I agree with Nick. Yellow-rumped Warbler was my first instinct as well.

looks like a yellow-rump to me too. you can even see a bit of yellow on one of the flanks.

As you say, Phil, not much there for an ID. Yellow-rumped, coronata subspecies, is probably as good a guess as any. I can't ID it with certainty.

Phil,
I'd have to agree that a juv. YRW is a good-as-any guess for this creature, but I gotta admit that my FIRST reaction was...

"What a wonderfully magnificent image !"

Its composition - albeit serendipitous - and the total visual impact are exceptional...regardless of the identity of the bird pictured. Sometimes the identity of the species pales in significance as it is subsumed by the impact of the totality of the image.

This is such an image!
I couldn't care less what is the species... and I would love to have that photograph matted and framed on my wall!

Thanks so much for sharing it!
