Am curious as to availability of bird life in Savannah NWR and other NWR's on down coast to Jekyll Island in Feb. Also am wondering if the extreme cold several weeks ago had any affect on number of birds there. I will not be going to Sanibel this Feb and was trying to find birds and other wildlife closer to home to photograph. I am also curious About St. Marks NWR in the panhandle of Fl. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Ray Dove Comer, Ga

I will be going to Savannah NWR tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, it will be at high tide, but if I can find birds then, I can find more at low tide. Harris Neck should be in the start of nesting season soon, but all close approaches to nesting birds are closed off. OK for a long lens and extender; otherwise, pretty mundane. Troup Nightingale is from Brunswick and can probably tell you about other areas further South.

Thanks, fellows. How was Savannah NWR, Phil?

Pretty mundane down here in Brunswick. Not much boat traffic, so, I haven't been on the water much. Everything here is fairly sparse. A few different ducks around, but very scattered. No nesting places spotted. Our wonderful weather has not been conducive to the birds or the birders. You might try talking to Lydia Thompson down here. Here is her blog:
