Please help with nature photography ideas for Northern Virginia during the Thanksgiving week. Favorite Refuge? anything would be appreciated.

Rohn: Great Falls National Park on both the Maryland and Virginia side may have some photographic possibilities both aournd the Mather Gorge area of the Potomac River and the C&O canal. There is a trail called the Billy Goat trail that will take you out to a bluff where I have seen birds of prey ride the air currents at the right time of year.

Blackwater NWR is in Maryland but within driving distance if you will have transportation.

The Front Royal entrance to Shenandoah National Park is also within about an hour driving distance. I don't know how late in the season the Skyline Drive through the park is open. I have never been there after the leaves come off, but there may be some opportunities there.

Skyline Dr. should be open all year as is the BRP. I think the only time it is closed is for bad weather. I know sections of the parkway get closed when it snows.
