I photographed this last fall around this time at Morton National Wildlife Refuge on Jessup's Neck which juts out into the Peconic Bay. At first I thought it was a vireo, but was looking at it again today and talked with my bosses (avid birders) who were thinking it's a ruby crowned kinglet. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'd buy kinglet for this.

Definitely a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Right shape. Eye ring seems more pronounced then I normally would expect but thats definitely it.

The asymmetrical eyering (thinner at top and bottom than on sides) seems to be a good field mark for this species, as well as the frenetic activity, with lots of wing and tail-flicking.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
What vireo that occurs in New York even resembles a kinglet?

Rich: a white eyed vireo to someone who at the time had about 2 months "birding experience". That's why I brought this up because looking at it again I realized I was wrong
