Hey folks.. I hope this is okay to post here, if not, feel free to move it wherever it might belong.

Dustin Rubenstein, colleague of mine is looking for an image of a showy African Starling for a shot at the cover of Nature (the top science journal)... here's a note from him:

I am a professor at Columbia University and I study the behavior of African starlings. I've recently had a paper accepted to a high profile scientific journal and been asked by the editors to submit some photos for the cover. The paper is on plumage ornamentation in African starlings, so I am seeking a nice photo (vertical crop) of a brightly colored starling (from a zoo or the wild). A photographer friend of mine suggested I post to this forum to see if anyone has a particular good photo they might want to allow me to use. As this is a scientific journal, they do not pay for photos like a commercial magazine might. However, if they chose your photo, I could compensate you out of pocket a bit if you wanted. At the very least, it would give you nice exposure! Unfortunately, I need to write the journal back in 24 hrs and send possible photos then. You can email me back directly if you are interested (dr2497@columbia.edu).

Nature is likely one of the top 2 most read scientific journals out there, so as far as exposure goes, it doesn't get much better than that. As a former scientist, I would love nothing more than to have anything published there, let alone a cover page

Nature is huge -- and they don't pay for a cover shot?! That sucks!

John - typically science journals not only do not pay you, but often they make you pay for the number of pages/figures, and number of colors you use in an article
