Hello, my name is Andrea and I'm sort of new, but this is my first time posting in this section. I'm getting ready to upgrade my photo printer and I'm wondering what would be a decent photo printer for under $300.00? The one I have now is Cannon but it is not strictly for photos and when I do print them, lines show on the photos (the printer was only $80 something bucks). So if you have any advice or information for me, I'd deeply appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello Andrea, the canon pixma line is quite good and decently priced.
in particular i'd have a look at the pixma ix4000 and ix5000
or if you're lucky and able to find a pixma pro 9000 (first version not the mark 2).
Those should all be around your budget, and all of them are a3+ printers.

If you are getting lines in your prints it is likely that the print heads need cleaning. Look at the maintenance options in the printer drivers and follow the steps. It should clear up the lines you have. To get there go to start/printers and faxes/right click the icon of your printer and go to the maintenance tab. The head cleaning routine is there.

Good luck.

Yeah I might, at the moment my husband is using it for our business, but he is going to be getting a new printer that doesn't involve printing photos. So in the next few weeks I'll either be using the Canon Pixma we have now for photos, but I'm really interested in getting one exclusive photo printing, how good are HP's or Hewlett Packard? I'll be looking at the Canon's definitely.

HP, Canon and Epson all make excellent photo printers.
Just stay away from the so called 'all-in-one' type printers.

Yeah I am definitely staying from the ones that say all-in-one, I think the one I have now is a "all-in-one", it is a Canon Pixma MP160. My husband had bought it with our Acer computer, the printer was only around $80 something dollars. I saw a HP that I am interested in but will keep looking around.

I recently purchased an HP Photosmart Pro 8850 printer and so far I am very happy with it. My determining factor in the purchase was the print size. Most of the higher end printers will go to 13" x 19" with a substantial increase in the cost. If you are looking for 4x6 or 8x10 prints then the Canon Pixma, or HP Photosmart printer lines are a good choice and can be purchased in your budget range.
Good Luck and Happy Printing! :wavey:

I have a Pixma 9000 that is a great printer. I got it for $100 when I bought my 50D and I have seen several listed on Craigslist and eBay at reduced prices from folks who got one the same way and decided to make a profit off it. Good luck--Larry
