Hi All
I am in the process of purchasing a new ball head.
I’ve narrowed it down to either Acratech GV2 or a Kirk BH-3.
My set up is Canon EOS Mark II with canon 70-200mm IS F2.8 or 24-70mm 2.8.
If you own or have owned one of these ball heads could you give
both the positive and negative feedback of each and which one might
be best suited for my camera setup.
I do a lot of shooting straight down. Do they lock down tight and what about lens creep.
I will post on other NPN forums as well.
Thanks
Joe
I have a BH-3 and I love it. I don't care for the Acratech. I have beat the hell out of my BH-3 and it just keeps on ticking. It is a solid piece of gear that will last the rest of your life. With that said if I where in the market right now for a good BH I'd take a long look at the what Really Right Stuff has to offer. As a mater of fact I'd buy the RRS vs the Kirk. I work with a guy who owns the BH-55 and its lower profile and the action is just a little bit better. However I plan on retiring for a dirt nap before I replace my BH-3
I have both the Kirk BH-3 and the RRS BH-55. They are both good pieces of equipment that get the job done. The RRS BH-55 is easier to to work the tension knob, and the option to have a quick release plate is a very good option to have. I was doubtful of it at first but now I am very much sold on it and it works great. I can mount / dismount a camera with speed, ease, and security.
You really can not go wrong with either one. They both do what they were designed to do and do it well.

One more vote for the RRS ballhead. I -really- love that quick release!
