Hunting Spot
I was able to get relatively close to a Spotted Sandpiper last month that was hunting in a shallow pond. The sun was high in the sky, so not ideal conditions.

Cool series Rob, what's the prey a tadpole? It always surprises me to see sandpipers taking a fish or large tadpole. :toast:

Thanks. Nate, the prey seems to be a minnow.

I've seen a lot of Spotted Sandpipers in my time, but I've never seen anything that they've captured and eaten. And I never realized that until I looked at this series. But since I almost always see this species at the water's edge I guess it isn't surprising to see this type of item on their diet.
