Just curious. I need to know what's going on so that I can make my plans. I may not be able to participate much. My sister just moved up from SC and it depends on her days off as well but I'd like to at least join you for dinner!
Hmmm...I haven't heard from Jim on how this has proceeded, but I know he booked the hotel in Gorham in the above link, and I have every intention of being in that area next weekend. I'm actually presenting a slideshow in Conway saturday night, and hope to take off Monday, but haven't put in for it yet.
Well, I was successful in getting Friday and Saturday off but since there's been nothing posted with details, my sister will be visiting me here so I won't be going to anything planned. I'm REALLY disappointed because I am healthy enough to be able to participate this time (before I found out my sister was going to be here). I hope the next get together will have more details...EARLY!!! I hope all who go have fun! Definitely post your pics!
I just went through my olde coorespondance, and it seems Jim had contacted the Top Notch Inn last I heard. It is a nice hotel in the center of Gorham. I'll be staying with a friend in Gorham saturday night, so will forward my contact info to Peter so we can hookup and poke around. There are a few big falls in the area that I'd like to focus on, as well as a few in Crawford Notch, a little less than an hour away...
I will not be getting up to the area until Saturday morning, and may stay south of the notches (crawford area) saturday, and come north for sunrise and everything late saturday night. Sunday (and hopefully monday) are good for me to shoot as well...
Sorry we won't be able to see you Chris, but I'm glad to hear you are healthy. I will hopefully be doing a weekend at Umbagog this summer, I'll let you know when I make it up north :)
Wildlife locations are very prominant up there. I'll pass along some other moosing spots up there, but the best area to hit for birds and wildlife is the Pondicherry NWR in Jefferson, a quick half hour from Gorham. It's right off rt.115, and less than a mile on a rail trail to some prime viewing. Other spots are the 13 mile woods, and the head of evans notch, all fairly close to gorham. That being said, last trip up there a few years ago with NPN, we saw moose less than a mile from the hotel in the town swimming hole and ball fields :)
We'll be in touch, and hopefully we hear from Jim D....
