Hi guys,
I decided to buy a full ND, I read some nice reviews about BW 1000x and Vari ND by Singh Ray, however this 2 brands are lot expensive for me at the moment.
Have you ever worked with Hoya ND 400, a 8 stop filter?
Love to listen the opinion about this filter, especially regarding quality of the glass and cast.
Thank you

Hi Pedro,
I've never used the filter you mention, however I think 8 stops, if you want to take serious long exposures in broad daylight, are simply not enough. On a sunny day when you have the classic 1/125 f11, with 8 stops of filtration you only get to 8" with 8 stops, while you reach 32" with 10 stops. As both Hoya and Singh-ray only gives you 8 stops, I strongly recommend you the B+W 110. Yes, it's not cheap, however consider that you can buy it for about 90€ with a diameter of 77mm and then you can use it with many lenses by mean of adaptor rings. It's a once in a life buy after all, as it's made up with high quality glass, very resistant to dropping (personally tested!) and/or scratches. The image quality is only slightly reduced and, finally, its degree of filtration is actually 11 stops!
