I'm finally matting and framing some of my prints and I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet that will ship up here without charging an arm and a leg (like $27 on a $50 order).
I'm looking for bags for prints, photo corners, hinging tissue, mats, foam board, etc...
Is there an internet vendor that will ship reasonably to a PO box in Alaska?
I'd rather shop local, but I only make it to Fairbanks about once every month and a half. Is there even a frame or art shop in Fairbanks that carries that sort of thing?
I went into Michael's last time I was in town and was appalled by the condition that the mats that they would have sold me were in and they didn't have anything else I was looking for. I'd rather not have to even buy mats there.
Breakup has finally struck around Denali! Hope everyone else is enjoying sunshine and melting snow.
Skip,
I order from Light Impressions, the shipping isn't terrible, but it is better to order as much as you can in one shot. In Anchorage, Frames Etc has some nice supplies, though limited. Also, I know B&H and Calumet (Calumet shipped me my printer and it wasn't very expensive) carry some supplies and their shipping to AK is reasonable. I think your main issue with ordering is that you have a PO Box, most companies use UPS and it actually cost them more to use USPS (some won't even ship USPS). Maybe have a friend in town except the order via UPS for you. Good Luck.
It never occurred to me to check B&H, they've actually got most of the stuff that I need soon. Thanks!
I can order things UPS or FedEx, but they only deliver by courier around here. It involves calling the company in Fairbanks to set up a day and then meeting the truck at a mile marker on the highway. It is a bad way to waste a day off.
Oh well, I'll just chalk it up to another little inconvenience that I have to put up with to live in the most beautiful state in the country.
