It was -3 F in Fairbanks this morning. It's starting to snow again. There are zero birds at Creamer's. I have shots of swans on open ponds from this date a year ago. I have spring fever bad. And if I have to run the snowblower one more time, I may become dangerous.

I couldn't agree with you more Jim-
It's not as bad down here in the Valley - but I'm ready for some greenery. The longer days are nice though! I had planned on going to Cordova for the migratory bird festival, but they still have 4 feet of snow!

Ha, just found the "Alaska" board! Glad I've got a place to post at last!
Snowing near Denali as I type this. I know this is Alaska, but enough is enough. Seriously.

It's crystal clear today in Juneau, but yesterday morning it dumped almost 8" in a freak April blizzard. Last night we were near our record low for the 17th of this month. I know I felt completely blindsided by the return to winter. The only difference between the dive to work this morning at 6:30 and one in January was that it was practically bright enough to be mid-day. Global climate change anyone?

So where is global warming when you need it? We had about a foot dump on us last week and we're over 2 weeks late with spring this year Nice sunshine this weekend but still quite cool during the day plus very cold at night. At least there's lots of daylight hours. That helps the attitude quite a bit
This image was taken yesterday, April 20th. This camp was at 4,000ft, above Blackstone Bay in Prince William Sound. We figured there was about 35ft of snow, at the ocean, where we started, there was about 8ft! For all you non-Alaskan photographers out there that read this forum and are planning a trip in May or June to Alaska, plan on seeing alot of snow, especially if you are going to do a trip in the higher country.

We're melting out in a hurry around Denali! Let breakup begin so it can be over with!
It dumped a bit on us in Seward last night, but I hear Anchorage got slammed. Even before things really started to white up, we got disrupted. My wife and I are shooting a 3-day event (the national championship of the National Ocean Science Bowl, pitting teams of high school kids from 25 states), and the sponsors chartered a train for them to get a real taste of Alaska on the way to Seward. My wife was shooting onboard while I leapfrogged ahead by car and got scenics with the train.
They got a real Alaska experience all right! An avalanche blocked the tracks and the kids had to be offloaded onto buses in Portage. Here's a quickie of the transfer.
