Still a lot of winter left in Alaska!
There is still plenty of snow everywhere in South Central Alaska but its a pretty time of year because the sun is higher and lights up the mountains more and for longer periods of time. It makes for a very bright time of year. This is a view of Valdez looking from the New Townsite across the City Container Dock to the East mountains.

Sony R-1, f10.0, 1/1250, ISO-160, 10 portrait photos stitched then cropped to the smaller version.

For those with big displays, here is a larger version.

For those with higher speed connections or a little more time, here is a very large panorama with the rest of the scene.

A sunny day in Valdez! It must be spring.

Even all the way down here in Southeast, it was snowing at sea level today (didn't stick though - thankfully). I'm ready for warmer temps, as I just returned from Phonix, but you're right that the increased daylight is brightening my perspective in more ways than one.

I like the panoramic format of your photo. It works so well for showcasing coastal mountains.

Sounds like the voice of experience, Jim. You must have spent some time here

Kent, it certainly is amazing what a little light can do for the attitude after a long dark winter! Just going to work in the light for once makes a big difference. That stupid Daylight Savings thing was a bit of a setback :frown: but its already good again :jump:

Snow Buntings in Delta. Golden Eagles at Gunsight Mountain outside of Palmer. Won't be long now.

Lovely picture, Gary. Blue sky just does wonders for my personality! Yes, the increased light makes this a great time of the year. Even though there's still lots of snow left, at least most of the really nasty ice on walkways and roads is gone, and we're not yet inundated by the hordes of tourists......
You have the greatest pictures of the Valdez area; you must know every single good place to take a picture from!! The snow in the rocks in the FG, and clouds around the peaks really make this one nice.
