The House is currently considering a bill that would turn over many of the management responsibilities in our National Parks, National Monuments, and Wildlife Refuges to various Native American tribes.

Let me start by saying that I have nothing against Native Americans, and I'm happy with the idea of the Park service and FWS contracting with tribes to provide some of services. However, it would appear that this Law would go well beyond that, possibly allowing tribes to run parks and refuges. Can you imagine Voyagers or Glacier run like Antelope Canyon or Monument Valley?

Ralph Maughan's wildlife blog has links to articles and a copy of the actual bill here: http://wolves.wordpress.com/2007/11/08/tribal-takeover-of-national-parks-and-refuges-said-by-peer-to-be-on-a-fast-track/#comment-44187
