Hey Folks,

Al Gore and the IPCC were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

Here.

I gotta try harder next year.

Cheers

Carl

Nobel must be spinning in his grave! Al Gore and the IPCC have done nothing to advance the cause of world peace and disarmament, which is what the PEACE PRIZE is supposed to be all about.

Thanks Daniel! Hey Dave, any more questions about global climate change and global peace? Way to go Al and the IPCC!

Nobel would not be spinning in his grave at all. Nobel was not known for limited thinking. Limited thinking is as big a risk to world peace as any other factor.

All U.S. presidents are neutered by politics. In his current role, Gore is far more effective as an agent of change than he would be as president. That being said, it takes a phenomenal push to activate and unite the American public. And, unfortunately, America is a REALLY big kid on the world block in this matter. The countrywide imperative is not there yet. We've been effectively and purposely distracted by a different kind of war. Sigh.

Whether Nobel would be spinning in his grave or not, I'm not sure. But according to his will, "the Peace Prize should be awarded to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

If we go by this definition, it is questionable as to how Al Gore or IPCC qualifies for this award. Even more so, because the maintainer's of the fund refused to give the Nobel Peace Prize to Gandhi on the basis that according to his will, the Nobel Peace Prize could be awarded to only living individuals. If they can stick to the will in this case, why can't the in case of Al Gore?

Al Gore certainly deserves an award for spreading awareness about global warming (climate change would be more accurate), but not the Nobel Peace Prize.

Whether we believe he should or should not has no bearing. They made the decision to give the award to Al and the IPCC and that says that they believed that they made the correct choice. So, like it or not they were awarded the prize!

The Nobel comittee must have missed all those articels about how much it took to heat his house. Or all the complaints about his liberal friends in Hollywood. And they certainly didn't read all the naysayers in this forum a couple of months ago. Maybe they actually counted the votes from Florida....

Way to go, Al !!!

Nah Pete, a different "supreme court" awarded Al the victory.

well, look at it this way, Peter; if it werent for some 'unusual' circumstances, Al would be our pres right now, and i strongly suspect a lot more action would have been taken with him at the helm.

We Norwegians are proud to hand out the prize to Al Gore and IPCC for the work they've done so far, the world got to start somewhere and NOW is the time for starting global awareness. What is the option, half the population of Bangladesh and the whole of Maldives (just to mention a few) on your doorsteps? To stop climate change is really a peacemaking task!!
