When i was in Yellowstone 10 days ago, I got an excellent casting from a perfect huge wolf paw print I found in some hardened mud along the Lamar River. I ran inro "town", got a bucket of plaster, and casted it (with original LaMar river water LOL! ).
I made a reverse cast when I got home, and several more casts now from it.
6 people who have seen it here loved it, and have purchased a cast, so it might be marketable.

So, what do you guys think? Very honest opinions, please!!

This is about 6 inches in diamter, and very stong. I have a balanced hanging loop on the back, and will imprint one of the Yellowstone pins (1.5 inches in diameter)into the back, along with imprinted (by hand) info - species, location, date, etc.

What would you buy this for, if you think it is marketable? I'm thinking about $35?

It could probably sell at a gift shop in a high traffic area. Tourists will buy anything. Yellowstone being a hotspot for wildlife would make sense. The Tetons, or Jackson Hole too. I think I woudln't go anymore than $15 if I were at the park. If you are targeting wealthy folks in town maybe you could go 35 but then again they probably don't buy things like your typical tourist. How much profit margin would you be making?

$15 wouldn't be worth my time, et alone the cost of supplies...

It's hard to imagine the size of this paw - way bigger than any of your guy's hands, with fingers stretched as wide as you can...

Oh well, maybe not a good idea...

Did Jim Halfpenny teach you to cast like that (and reverse cast), by any chance?

I'd love to have that, but only if I made it myself. Excellent job. I'll have to remember my plaster if I get out there one of these days.

Probably the best way to find out is to make up 30 or 40 and see how they sell. Price them at a point where it is worth your time and effort. Then just sit back and see what happens. The imprint of the Yellowstone pin may be copyrighted... if you plan to use it you should check on it first.
