My article has been published in the May/June issue of PHOTO TECHNICQUES. See my post under general discussion for the text.

I made the submission in Dec and it was accepted in Feb. We bounced it back and forth a few times for tuning and proofing, all via e-mail. I then heard no more till my subscription copy showed up in the mail today.

Is it not customary for a magazine to have a signed release for someones work prior to publication? in addition, I have not received my check for $200 or any additional copies or tear sheets.

Does something seem wrong here?

Doyle, I've written quite a few articles for national publications, and I don't remember ever signing a release for the writing. I HAVE signed a release for photographs that appeared in a magazine, mainly for one-time usage, etc.

I'd go ahead and email the person who was editing your article and ask them if you need to submit an invoice in order to get paid. You sure deserve to get paid, but a gentle reminder to the publication may be required.

Way to go on the article, by the way. I'm going to go check it out.

What Nancy said, but I wouldn't even ASK about submitting an invoice; I'd just do it.
