I was contacted by a small non-profit that is interested in using one of my images as part of their all their organizational material. They want to use it on the covers of all their publications, sign, website, etc. How do I go about providing a quote for something as broad as this?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

First of all you need to know the circulation numbers, image size on page, duration, etc. Then get yourself a copy of Fotoquote (it'll probably pay for itself with this sale) or plug the numbers into one of the online price calculators (search this forum, I'm sure it's been mentioned before). You can also register as a buyer on Getty, Corbis, or one of the other stock photo sites and plug in the same numbers and usages. That should give you a starting point.
And remember, just because this is a non-profit doesn't mean they don't have money to spend. It just means they can't make a profit. A lot of non-profits have budgets for these kinds of things (along with salaries, utilities, and paying other suppliers)
Thanks Ron. I regularly use the various tools to find quotes, what I don't understand in this issue is how to address their desire to be able to use this broadly and on an ongoing basis. They want the right to be able to use this image throughout their small organization. How do I quote this?

Thanks again. Having led international non-profits for many year I clearly understand the non-profit issues and I also use and understand the quote tools. What I still need help with is how I go about calculating something like an unlimited use fee of an image for the organization for a year. This would give them the right to use this image on brochures, posters, web, signs, etc. None of the tools seem to do this. Where do I start to figure this out?
Thanks!

Perhaps you could add up all the usages as if they were being licensed separately and then apply a discount because of all the usages being requested? Also be sure to ask them if they want exclusive use of the photo for the duration. If they do, that means you can't license it for anything else and your pricing should reflect that.

Please remember that just because they are a NON-profit....
that does NOT mean they can't pay for things....
It just means they get tax breaks....
We still need to get paid....
They are NOT the Red Cross feeding starving people...
Fotoquote is good and read the articles at asmp.org
If you WANT to donate an image to ca cause you believe in that is YOUR option...
BUT for a big project or brochure...hey, that can go onto reprints
and you need to decide what "limited rights" you are licensing to them.....
for this one time usage!!! and © those images NOW or earlier!!!
I DO have friends that have been screwed by NON profits and magazines...!!!!
CYA and get them © first and them submit COPIES of the images
with a © on it image for them to choose from!!
If you don't CYA....who will????
The ASMP can guide you...but you have to do it
In gratitude,
Nelcha
