Well this month is flying by. Since last week there has been some increase in color, but not as much as I expected. Things have slowed down and will provide 2 good weekends for shooting. Over the past 2 years, the fall color has featured vivid yellows and reds. This year there is more browns. Why, I do not know? Wind? Frost? both? To get vivid colors the leaves the trees need warm days and cool nights so the sugar (in the trees) level rises and falls dramatically. We had warm days-warm nights followed by cool days and cold nights, resulting in the trees saying... "This is weird, I'm turning brown and preparing for the worst"... in short too much variance.... I would not look at this negatively. Edward Weston, Elliott Porter and many other great nature photographers published many great images of color in trees that was not the vivid color that we all look for. This is the essence of fall here in Ohio this year.

We had warm weather, that shifted to very cold weather--- very quickly, in addition to a lot of wind. The past 2 years featured a quiet transition period. Not this year. Many places in and around the valley experienced a frost a month earlier than last year. I think that now temps have settled into a pretty static trend
(normal temps for this time of October) with the exception on maybe one cool day this week, coming over weekend( Fri PM into Sat). We expect rain tonight and tomorrow ( 1-1.5") then a dry period with lots of clouds & sun through SAT PM. ( I CAN ALREADY SEE A FOG SETTING UP DURING THE EARLY AM FRI, SAT & SUNDAY..... that means the photography of the beaver pond from Riverside Road looking in towards the boardwalk as well as the Hale Farm Church,(shoot from the back, with the pond reflection, should be exceptional at least one, if not 2 of the 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!). Sunday Oct 29th will be a good day to shoot since increasing clouds in advance of the precipitation expected early next week will be advancing). The weather service is predicting some wind to pick up tomorrow AM. This will only enhance the already more than normal leaf drop. Don't let that scare you, we have plenty of leaves still here. In fact I was hiking in the woods to my "yet to be named pond" today and the trees under the canopy still had ALL green leaves.

Some areas of the park at peaking while the vast majority is rapidly changing. Both this weekend as well as next weekend will be optimum for good shooting. I would concentrate this weekend at Bridleveil Falls, Blue Hen Falls, and the lower elevations of the park. It's been cooler there. Tinkers Creek overlook is still a few days away, but since it's close to bridle veil falls, stop & check it out. Sylvan pond should be good the following weekend ( 28-29) as well as Armington Pond.

Unless something drastically happens I will not be posting an update until Wed PM 10/18.

I'll be off to the Ledges and some of the other areas of the park tomorrow & Wed.
