Better Light makes a scanning back for view cameras that can be coupled with a motor to spin the camera and get a panorama. The problem is that it is not instantaneous and requires quite a bit of gear to make it work. Still, it's cheaper than $30,000 and can have up to 450 megapixels. You can go to Steve Johnson's website to see some examples.
Yikes, 470 mp? I guess we could then make a 50 foot wide, room-sized pano that could sell to mega-bucks corporations for $100,000. Then those in the penthouse suites at the top of the City's tallest buildings would have a panoramic view even on rainy days. Any 5000 of you want to chip in for one?

Evan, I believe the point of this camera is that it can take the panorama in about 1/2 a second. So you can get action panoramas (they have a surfing one on the website). Pretty cool!
