It is amazing, but the way things are going, it won't be amazing next year. In a similar $/gb range I bought a 250 gb external "LACIE," actually a Seagate internal drive in a sleek LACIE enclosure, at CompUSA for $99. But they didn't have what I really wanted: a small, cheap disk for a "legacy" machine I was bringing back to life at work (I was replacing a 3 gb drive). I did find it at MicroCenter - an 80 gb Samsung for $50, bought the identical item two years ago for another PC two years ago for $70! No great deal, but Windows 98 doesn't support huge disks. Unfortunately at home, my appetite for disk space seems to increase at about the rate that the price goes down. That will end at some point, I expect, because I do transfer files to CDs for long-term storage.
