Can anyone recommend a good program for organizing and cataloging thousands of digital images? I am looking for something robust enough but not too complicated. Thanks

Here are some to check out: Extensis Portfolio, Iview Media Pro, Digital Pro, Breezebrowser. Just some to start with. I think this has been discussed on the forum before so try a search on "image organizing" or "digital asset management"
One book I'd recommend is "The DAM Book" by Peter Krogh.
Sorry, but I'm too lazy tonight to include links, but all these programs and the book are easy to find on the web.

PSE Elements 3 or 4 have a nice organizer built in. Mine is holding up with a catalog of 10,000 images or so. Its a more visual cataloging system, but uses simple tools to tag images and build queries to retrieve images. You can open images from this catalog to any image editing software. It also includes backup features and the ability to store images remotely (on DVD or CD) while maintaining the thumbnail in the catalog.
Best part is that it is pretty cheap at less than $100.

If you want to understand all of the aspects of organizing digital images, I reccomend reading a book by Peter Krogh, The DAM Book. It is a book on Digital Asset Management. There were reviews for this book on this site. The NPN DAM Book Review
Peter also runs a forum that discusses the details of DAM as well The DAM Book
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies. Has anyone used Digital Photo Pro (Moose Peterson/David Cardinal)?

Filemon - I use Digital Photo Pro. I like it and the forum that David runs to support it is a very good resource as well.

I use iView MediaPro. Its is on the expensive side, but very powerful, relatively easy to use, and supports more file types than most. I switched from ThumbsPlus Pro, which is relatively inexpensive, but lacks easy-of-use and wide filetype support.

Don't buy anything until you have read the "DAM" book.
