I was wondering if anyone here has been to this place. I just read a litle about it and it seems like a very interesting place to go take photos. It is suppose to have bison, elk, deer, bears, a long bird list and great scenery.
Can anyone share any experiences with this place and about how far it might be from the Knoxville area? thanks

Oh, the childhood memories come flooding in on that one...! I grew up in Clarksville, TN and LBL was a short hop over to catching the big fish.
We only visited the Bison occasionally and I found them mostly elusive and for some reason always really far away from the viewing area. I'm sure much has changed in the 25 years since I used to stomp around out there. My parents said they recently (read "last 5-10 years" in parent time) cleaned the place up, so there is hope for better facilities in general, I think.
I'd put it at about 5 hours from you in K-town by car. There's a good campground there called Piney Campground that is real nice to stay at.

Thanks for the info Joe. Sounds like you certainly have fond memories which is wonderful. I will have to go check it out sometime soon.

Cindy, if you go around Janurary or Feburary you can view Bald eagles, even though they do have a few resident eagles. Also go to Hematite Lake, it is close to the nature center and has a walking trail that circumnavigates it. Has a blind out on the lake too. Ron
