Anyone else in MWNP with lichen images? I enjoy lichens in all their forms and colors, and frequently shoot them when possible. Let's post a few as a MWNP mini-topic. I'll put one up from my trip to Acadia N.P. last May. Schoodic Point, the only mainland part of the park, has abundant lichen of various colors; this "fluorescent" yellow type was very common on rocks at the Point itself. It would be easy to find compositions all day long, fascinating in their variety of patterns on the underlying rocks.

Great color and leading lines. I just wish I had a lichen shot to post. I need to remember to look down once in a while.

Wonderful image Danny All the lichen I have ever observed down here are never this vibrant. From Southern IN. where would be some of the closer areas I could travel to be able to view and photograph lichen with the color and patterns that you and Joel have posted?

Bernie - I haven't seen much lichen in our area. You could try an area with a bit of altitude such as Brown County SP, although I don't specifically remember seeing any when I was there. It seems to favor areas with cold winters. Specifically, shores of Lake Superior (both shores, but especially the north side), Acadia and other N.E. areas, etc. I also see quite a bit at high altitudes in the Smokies, but not the orange and yellow types that I find in northern latitudes.
Strong diagonal composition here Danny. The longer focal length compresses things nicely. I can't help but want to see it in print though.
Of course actually getting out to Acadia and seeing the area first hand wouldn't hurt either.

Hey, I remember those rocks!
I'll post something this weekend. I came back with too many lichen shots from the trip (and not enough shoreline shots, but that is another story). I'll be spending too much time at the computer anyway!
