I know I bet you are wondering what the heck is a Alpine Tarn ( a small mountain lake or pool). While in the Sierra during July, 4th weekend I ran across this relatively little Tarn. It was pretty chilly up there at 10,000ft elevation.

Decided to setup and shoot a panorama of the scene. It was around 9:30am. Light was not the best but looked pretty warm still..

Tech
D2x
ISO 100
28-70mm
12 Vertical images
Converted from RAW to 16bit TIFF
Stitched in Panorama Factory
Enjoy

I highly recommend you look at the larger version

I like the simple composition, and the eye-candy over-saturated colors. It makes the snow patches stand out.

Thanks for the definition of Tarn. There is a region of France called "Tarn et Garonne", now I know the full meaning of it, since the other word is the name of the main river there.

"Middle English terne, tarne, of Scandinavian origin; akin to Old Norse tjorn small lake
: a small steep-banked mountain lake or pool"

Hi Eric!

Dana Meadows! MG and I were there in late June and there was a great deal more snow. This is a nice image of the place! I have always had a love affair with these small tarns. They have a serenity that just plain feels good. Well done!

This is beautiful. I specially like the detail visible under the water surface.

With 12 source images, this one will make an incredible print.
