Alice Scoggins and I met at dawn Sunday 8/13/06 at the Cataloochee section of Great Smoky Mtns Nat'l Park. We both had another good time with Alice looking for landscapes and me looking for wildlife. At one point I had a whitetail doe on one side of me and elk calves and cows on the other and it was chaos trying to decide. I was there especially for the calves but also am not able to get that close to deer outside of Cades Cove. Here is my favorite so far of the elk calves-one collared and the other not having been caught by "the man" yet
Hey that turned out great! My one shot is similar to this...I'll post it later when I get home. How did your shot of the tree with the foreground rocks turn out?

Alice,
I havent got to that one yet I can't wait to see what you did with all the fog we had!
Aside from that, you did a great job here, Leanne, with the composition and lines of sight. Looks like you two had another productive trip!

Thanks Richard,
I take the time to clone out the tags and collars on the bulls where it is easier because of their bulk. Hopefully there will be a time soon where it isn't needed to collar the whole herd.

Nice shot! I just moved to Maryville and havent had a chance to come over to shoot the Elk yet. But I hope to soon. I spend most of my shooting time at Cades Cove and GSM. Saw 6 bears yesterday, including a mamma with 3 cub adorable courious cubs. I can see a little twinge of color starting to show up here and there. Cant wait for fall, but not looking forward to the crowds. Its nice now if you go early during the week.

Cindy,
How many fawns have you seen? I went to Cades Cove the 2nd week of June and the does were carrying volkswagons. I have only seen 2 fawns locally-way down from "normal".

Hi Leann
Lets see I would say 8 to 10, but I am sure there are more. One mother had 2 a few weeks ago off of hyatt lane. I have seen most of them there, but a few off the loop in the woods. Most were seen early in the morning. I will let you know if I see anymore, am going there thursday I think. I try to go at least once a week till I get a job. Then it will cut down on how much I will get to enjoy around here. So why not go for it now. Would rather have time off during fall.
A friend went to Big Meadows in VA and saw tons of doe's and fawns about 2 weeks ago now. I want to go up there, but he said its at least a 6 hour drive from where I live.

Cindy,
Shenandoah Natl park is awesome for near tame deer. I love deer and you almost get over saturated with them-makes finding the wild/hunted ones even sweeter.
