I'm hoping that someone here has some experience with this!
A few years ago, I licenced and image for use in a science textbook. I was paid X dollars for use in that edition and also future editions of the same book.
So far so good, I was very happy.
I have now been contacted by a publisher related to the first one, and they are asking for an extension of the initial rights to include a foreign-language edition, and of course are asking aobut fees :)
So, should I base my fee on the last similar agreement? Less, more?? Any advice would be most appreciated. Th publication run is MUCH smaller than the first one.
(I will be cross-posting this at TPN in hopes of getting a number of responses)
To the same client we extend use licenses at a percentage of the initial annual fee. Whether that applies in your case is another question. I expect a minimum of 50%, but usually try for more through negotiations.
