K.O. Erickson named Mora for his birth place in Sweden in the early 20th century. By 1920 a community, with hotel, dance hall, store and cabins thrived at Mora and nearby Rialto Beach. All burned in the 30's. Now part of the Olympic National Park, Mora is a campground in the midst of an old growth sitka spruce forest on the northwest coast of Washington state. Rich in undergrowth, Mora hosts, ferns, mosses, redwood sorrel, false lily-of-the-valley cling to the roots of the old growth spruce roots along with salal and many species of birds and animals. More than 140 inches of rain fall on this temperate rain forest.
