Sharp-shinned Hawk protecting his prey

This Sharp-shinned Hawk caught a pigeon near my home in Fairbanks, Alaska and was eating it in a neighbor's yard. He was at it for hours! He didn't want to leave his feast. I was able to get within 8 feet of him to get this and other photos. He was a magnificent little Hawk and it was my first time seeing one.
