Sunrise With Cranes

This magical scene greeted attendees at the Monte Vista Crane Festival one morning from the main viewing area. Every morning, these Greater Sandhill Cranes take a short flight from their resting grounds to the feeding areas in the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge. The Sangre de Christo Mountains frequently catch moisture from the valley overnight, resulting in low-hanging clouds that make for interesting sunrise scenes.
