Dawn from Mt Amos, Freycinet
Tasmania, AUSTRALIA
The climb up Mt Amos in the dark aided by a full moon was rewarded by possibly the most beautiful view in Australia, the crescent of Wineglass Bay, one of the top 10 beaches in the world. The magic hour is the subject of a chapter in Galen Rowell's book "Mountain Light", a term describing that time where the warm tones of the day meets the cool tones of the night. You can clearly see the transition in this scene from left to right, taken shortly after sunrise.
