A Florida banded watersnake scopes his/her surroundings while a little bug rests on his snout. Bandeds are quite common at Kanapaha, a fantastic botanical garden on the southwest corner of Gainesville, Florida. The park supports a healthy population of bandeds and Florida cottonmouths. Yellow rat snakes, peninsula ribbon snakes, and southern black racers can also be found slinking through the trees and shrubs. Ringneck and brown snakes hide just beneath the surface near the paved sidewalks. The place is a treasure trove of Floridian herpetology.
