The Matterhorn, at Zermatt, is probably one of the world's best-known mountains, and one of its most photographed, particularly from the Swiss side. It is visually very impressive from all angles. It is an isolated mountain, not linked directly to any neighbours, and as such it generates its own weather, making climbing conditions on the mountain rather un-predictable.
