Mont Blanc, 4807m. (15,772ft), is the highest mountain in Western Europe, and the summit can be seen over the rocky buttress in the centre. The picture was taken from the top of the Aiguille du Midi, 3800m. (12,468ft) which can be accessed by cable-car from Chamonix, or on foot via the south ridge, as this climber is doing.
