Pool of Cold Fire

This beautiful location is known as the Pool of Cold Fire, on the North Fork of the North Fork American River, in northern California. I was scrambling along the river in this remote canyon in the early morning hours in search of a waterfall. But I came upon this dead-end, a narrow gorge with towering cliffs on each side of the river. The only way to continue was to swim (not with my expensive camera equipment though). Instead, I found this composition and waited for the sunlight to filter down into the gorge. It was a beautiful reflection scene. I hope you enjoy it as well.
