Hundreds, perhaps thousands of visitors to North Hegman Lake each year ponder the artist who painted the Hegman Lake pictographs, one of many sets of rock art within the BWCAW. People must travel by canoe during open water season to see the art on Hegman, since it is painted on a cliff at water's edge, but winter travel, by cross-country skies or snowshoes, offers a different opportunity.
