Black Crowned Night Heron (immature)

This black crowned night heron was sitting near a water output cluvert at the Brigantine (NJ). When the water came out the fish were confused and easier to catch. He sat there for a few hours, very oblivious to photographers. This photograph was taken, on a tripod, with a Canon 20D and a Canon 500mm f4 IS lens. AV mode 1/2000 sec f5.6 -1 exposure compensation. I pressed the shutter just as he was hacking on a feather right after preening himself.
